Upgrade Plan#

You can upgrade your plan at any time from the Dashboard. Upgrades are processed immediately and billed on a prorated basis.

How to upgrade#

1. Go to Dashboard → Billing → Manage Subscription
2. You will be redirected to the Stripe Billing Portal
3. Select Upgrade Plan and choose your new tier
4. Confirm the change — Stripe shows you the prorated amount due immediately
5. Click Confirm — your card is charged for the prorated difference

You are redirected back to your Dashboard. The tier change is queued and processed within 30–60 seconds for shared-tier upgrades, or up to 5 minutes when upgrading to Team.

What happens to your instance#

Shared-to-shared upgrades (e.g. Starter → Solo, Solo → Professional)#

This is the fastest path. The tier-change worker:

1. Updates your container's resource limits (atom cap, bootstrap cap, storage)
2. Restarts your container to apply the new limits — this takes under 30 seconds
3. Updates your subscription record

Your MCP endpoint stays the same. No reconnection needed. Your atoms are not touched.

Any tier → Team (shared to dedicated)#

Upgrading to Team provisions a dedicated DigitalOcean droplet for your account. This is a heavier operation:

1. Your existing shared container is set to read_only while the new droplet provisions
2. A new dedicated droplet (2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM) is created and configured
3. Your MMPM service is deployed on the dedicated droplet with Team-tier limits
4. Once the new instance passes its health check, it becomes your active endpoint
5. The old shared container is decommissioned

This process takes approximately 3–5 minutes. During this window you have read-only access to your existing atoms. There is no data migration — the dedicated instance starts fresh. Your atoms are preserved via MMPM's own persistence layer (they exist in the new instance because they were never deleted; the instance just got a new host).

Note on MCP endpoint: When upgrading to Team, your MCP URL will change to reflect your new dedicated instance. Check your Dashboard for the updated URL and update your AI client config accordingly.

Billing for upgrades#

Stripe prorates upgrades immediately. If you are on Solo ($9/month) and upgrade to Professional ($29/month) halfway through your billing cycle, you pay:

• A credit for unused Solo days (~$4.50)
• A charge for remaining Professional days (~$14.50)
• Net charge: ~$10 immediately

From the next billing cycle, you are charged the full Professional price.

After upgrading#

• Your new limits take effect immediately (higher atom cap, more bootstraps, more storage)
• If you upgraded to Team, update your MCP endpoint URL in your Claude config
• Check Dashboard → My Substrate to confirm the new tier and limits are shown correctly

Upgrading during a trial#

You can upgrade during your 14-day trial at any time. The trial clock continues on your new tier — if you are on day 3 of a Professional trial and upgrade to Team, you have 11 days remaining on your Team trial before billing starts.
